The annual Porsche Tennis Grand Prix will be held from April 20th through the 28th. Running since 1978, this high-stakes competition attracts the top talent of the tennis world and always makes for exciting entertainment. With seven Top 10 players competing this year, the 2013 Porsche Tennis Grand Prix will be no exception to this rule. Whether you’re a casual tennis fan or a fanatic, be sure to tune in for the Porsche Tennis Grand Prix – everyone here at Brumos Porsche is looking forward to it.

The Porsche Tennis Grand Prix is a Premier Tournament on the WTA tour. It has run for 36 years, making it the oldest indoor women’s tournament in Europe. Because of its illustrious history, the Porsche Tennis Grand Prix features top players battling it out. The 2013 competition will feature superstars like Maria Sharapova and Angelique Kerber of Porsche Team Germany.

“We will treat our audience [to] top level world class tennis once again this year,” said Tournament Director Markus Gunthardt. “Grand Slam winner and WTA Champions will be here. It doesn’t come much better.”

History of Ferdinand Porsche

For Porsche, innovation and excellence aren’t goals – they’re missions. Since the company was founded in 1931, it has been guided by these principles, thanks in no small part to its visionary founder Ferdinand Porsche.

Whether he was designing the first ever electric-gasoline hybrid vehicle in the year 1900, bringing the automobile to the masses, or relentlessly improving his designs, it is Ferdinand Porsche’s forward-looking ideas that shape his company’s legacy even today.

Ferdinand Porsche was born in 1875 in what is the present-day Czech Republic, but was then under Austrian control. From the time he was young, Porsche had an exceptional grasp on mechanics. By his teen years, he was taking classes at a technical school and working at his father’s mechanic shop. Unable to afford college but eager to continue his education, Porsche would sneak into electrical engineering classes at a local college, eventually learning enough to join the early days of auto industry.

Porsche then joined Jakob Lohner & Co. in 1898, where he designed his first automobiles. His first model, dubbed the “System Lohner-Porsche,” was actually powered by two electric motors rather than gasoline. After just a few years, Porsche had quickly risen in the ranks within the industry, improving upon his designs and forging boldly ahead with ambitious plans.

It wasn’t until 1931, however, that his dreams would be realized. After many years of working for other auto companies, he had finally founded his own: Porsche.

Porsche began as a consulting firm, designing vehicles for other companies, and remained so for a decent period of time. But, with the release of the Porsche 356 in 1948 – the first automobile to carry the Porsche brand – Ferdinand began a journey that still continues today, and a dogged pursuit of perfection that his successors are still moving forward. Ferdinand Porsche passed away in 1951 due to a stroke, but his vision and passion lives on today in every new Porsche that sees release.

Porsche Use in Hollywood

We all know that a Porsche can be a Hollywood star in front of the camera, but you might not realize that a Porsche can be a star behind the camera as well.

Thanks to the Porsche Panamera’s incredible reliability and stability, the vehicle is used as a high-speed camera operator, allowing filmmakers to capture unbelievable shots and jaw-dropping action scenes. All it takes for the Panamera to fit this role is a camera crane attached to its top.

This isn’t a new phenomenon. For example, the Porsche Cayenne has long been to be a go-to vehicle for Hollywood film crews. Brumos Racing Announces Plans for Remainder of 2013 Season

Jacksonville, FL: When GRAND-AM introduced its new Daytona Prototype class back in
2003, Brumos Racing was there. One of the first teams to support the concept with a firm
commitment, Brumos campaigned a pair of Porsche-powered FABCARs in the inaugural race.
Since then, Brumos has competed in every race held by the GRAND-AM Rolex Series – a
claim no other team can make.
Now, as GRAND-AM and the American LeMans Series prepare to merge into the newly
formed United Sports Car Racing group, Brumos has made the difficult decision to end their
2013 season early, following their upcoming race at Road Atlanta. After over ten years of
competition without any break, Brumos will take some much-needed time off the road to focus
on the future and the new era of sports car racing that lies ahead.
Brumos team owner Dano Davis explained, “We have been proud to be part of the GRANDAM
Rolex Series since the inception of the DP class in 2003. Hurley Haywood and Peter
Gregg earned their first IMSA championship for Brumos in 1971 and followed up with more
championships, and 24 Hours of Daytona victories, making Hurley one of the most successful
road racers in history. We thank Hurley and Peter, as well as the many other drivers and team
members, who have built the legacy of Brumos Racing through the years.
“When I bought the Brumos dealerships in 1990, Bob Snodgrass and I decided that racing was
important to our company. We competed in the IMSA SuperCar Series and won
championships in 1991, 1992 and 1993. We are proud to have won the 2009 Rolex 24 at
Daytona and most recently, the Rolex Series GT Championship in 2011, our first year back in
GT competition.
“Our racing is extremely competitive and expensive, and sponsorship is a necessity to
continue. Thus far, we have been unsuccessful in our efforts to acquire that sponsorship. We
will complete our 2013 season with the race at Road Atlanta and work towards our return to
the new USCR Series in the future. I thank our drivers, Andrew Davis and Leh Keen, our team
manager, Skip Schinsing, along with all of our team members whose expertise and dedication
have allowed us to continue to build the heritage of Brumos Racing.”
The GRAND-AM Rolex Series race at Road Atlanta will be held on April 20, 2013, with a
start time of 4:30 PM ET. The 2.75 hour race will be broadcast live on SPEED TV.

Hurley Haywood with the Porsche Young Driver Program

Now that the First Porsche Young Drivers Academy has passed, we can take a look back at how the event went for the four young drivers involved. Earlier this year, Porsche Motorsports North America hosted four up-and-coming racers at Barber Motorsports Park in Alabama, where they undertook driving tests, personality evaluations, and media training. Porsche’s goal with this program was to identify the skills of these burgeoning young drivers and help foster their careers. By all accounts, the event was a success.

The four drivers chosen – Sean Johnston, Kyle Marcelli, Cooper MacNeil, and Spencer Pigot – spent a few days with pros like Porsche Factory Driver Patrick Long and Brumos Racing legend Hurley Haywood. According to Tony DiZinno of Racer.com, Haywood showed the four young drivers the ropes.

“The key is consistency,” Haywood said. “You don’t go out here to set the world on fire.”

Despite rainy weather and poor driving conditions, the day was considered a success.

“Nobody pushed too hard or had any spins, but we still needed them to find their sweets spots,” said Porsche Motorsports North America head Jens Walther. “In looking at all their backgrounds, it was very impressive.”

By the end of the Porsche Young Driver Academy, the four young drivers were more aware of their strengths, weaknesses, and next steps in their careers.

  • Marcelli, who Porsche Motorsports consistently praised, is expected to take a test for Porsche’s Supercup Championship in Germany next year.
  • Pigot, an open-wheel driver by training, is likely to join the Road to Indy Ladder next year.
  • MacNeil will be competing in the ALMS GTC 2013, with other Grand-Am races likely to follow
  • Johnston is expected to serve in an apprenticeship with Porsche Motorsports in Germany, where he’ll learn more about the company and its team

No matter where they end up, however, these four young drivers shared in a groundbreaking experience together – the Porsche Young Driver Academy.

2014 Cayenne Turbo S

Porsche and Aha Integration

At the 2013 Consumer Electronic Show, Porsche revealed its new partnership with the online service Aha, bringing an unprecedented level of digital integration to upcoming Porsche models.

This collaboration will allow Porsche drivers to access to radio stations from across the world, stream podcasts, search for addresses, and much more. Porsche drivers can also use the Aha smartphone app in tandem with their vehicle’s PCM system, creating a seamless online experience. Just as Porsche pushes the envelope in terms of performance and design, it is pioneering online vehicle integration.

According to CNET, Porsche displayed its Aha Integration technology in a Cayenne GTS. As one of the market’s leading online radio services, Aha will give Porsche drivers access to over 30,000 radio channels, an online music service, podcasts, news, and audiobooks.

The other primary purpose of Porsche Aha integration is the service’s search features. Aha brings Google search to your Porsche, allowing you to locate businesses and services nearby. There is also a quick search feature that will highlight specific types of businesses, like hotels or restaurants, that are in your area. It even integrates Yelp ratings into the search.

Additionally, the new Aha app for your Porsche will seamlessly connect with the Aha app on your smartphone, giving you additional functionality. Not only will you be able to mark your favorite radio stations on your phone and then pull them up instantly in your car, but you will be able to listen to a song on your phone and then continue exactly where you left off inside your Porsche.

Porsche’s collaboration with Aha will bring Porsche owners more digital services than ever before, giving them a best-in-class online radio and search system to match their best-in-class Porsche. Although the Porsche Aha app is not yet available to consumers, we’ll notify you as soon as this exciting new service goes live.
